The Best Hairstyle for Softbll- it's not a ponytail

The Softball Hairstyle That Worked for My Daughter

My 12 year old daughter Harmony has been playing softball since she was 5. I remember her first T ball game! She loved the game sooo much, but when we got home, her fine blonde hair was a tangled sweaty mess. We have tried literally all of the softball hairstyles out there: ponytails. Braids.

With the helmets and the hats, one of the biggest struggles we've dealt with is: how do we do her hair for softball? We have tried a variety of softball hairstyles through the years and have finally found the hairstyle that works the best for softball (and other sports that require a helmet or hat!)

TL: DR Rip Tie Hair Ties are the BEST solution for Softball Hair! These are the best hair ties for under a hat or helmet. They keep Harmony's hair tangle free and off the back of her neck. Worth every penny!

The Softball Hairstyles that DIDN'T Work (or worked okay)

Softball Hairstyle Option 1: Bubble Braids

This seems to be a really trendy hairstyle right now with the girls on the team. To make this hairstyle, you need a lot of hair ties! Start with a ponytail, and every inch or so, use another hair tie to make "bubbles" down the length of the hair

Pros: Easy

Cons: Uses LOTS of hairties. The hair ties are always getting lost and snapping. Also, each hair tie creates breakage in Harmony's hair, this hairstyle causes a lot of breakage and damage

Softball Hairstyle Option 2: Ponytail

This is the easiest hairstyle for softball that you could imagine- use a hair tie, make a ponytail, done! unfortunately, the aftermath is less easy. Tons of tiny knots in the ponytail and she always complains that the hair sticks to the back of her neck in the heat.

Cons: Hair sticks to neck, tiny tangles in ponytail

Softball Hairstyle Option 3/ French Braid

This is a popular look with other girls on the team, but I'm going to be honest, I can't do French braids so personally, I never did them. And if my husband was traveling with Harmony? Forget about it. There's no way he could do this hairstyle before her softball game started!

Cons: Hard to do and causes tiny tangles

The BEST Hairstyle for Softball: Rip Ties!

Last year I saw an ad for Rip Ties on my Instagram and was intrigued. These unique rubber ponytail holders have one large loop and one small loop connected by a braided stretchy rope made out of fabric covered elastic. These hair ties wrap around ponytails to keep hair tangle free. What a cool idea! I thought.

First, the Rip Tie Hair Ties are very easy to put in. They fit perfectly under a hat or helmet. They also prevent those tiny tangles in ponytails that are impossible to brush out in the shower!
