The Best (and Cutest!) Volleyball Hairstyles
My 16-year-old daughter loves volleyball. Every fall, when her school season kicks off, we ask the same question: what’s the best volleyball hairstyle to keep her long, thick blonde hair off her neck and out of her face — without falling apart halfway through the game?
We also love showing team spirit, so matching hair ties and ribbons in school colors are always part of the fun!
Over the years, we’ve tried dozens of styles. These are our top five cute volleyball hairstyles that actually stay put through spikes, serves, and sprints — plus, they’re all easy volleyball hairstyles you can do in just a few minutes before practice or a game.
Volleyball Hairstyle Option 1: (Our Favorite!) A Rip Tie
A Rip Tie is a ponytail holder that wraps around the ponytail!

Our top pick by far is the Rip Tie Ponytail. A Rip Tie is a soft, wrap-around hair tie designed to secure long hair in place without tangling or pulling — perfect for athletes.
Why we love it: It’s quick, secure, and comfortable. My daughter can go from warm-ups to the final set without her ponytail drooping, sticking to her neck, or turning into a knotted mess.
How to do it:
-
Start by making a secure ponytail using the larger elastic loop on the Rip Tie.
-
Hold the tie taut (not stretched) and wrap it smoothly down the length of the ponytail.
-
Secure the end with the smaller elastic band — not too far down, or it might slip off.
That’s it! Her hair stays neat, off her shoulders, and tangle-free, and when the game’s over, she can slide it right out with no snags.
Volleyball Hairstyle Option 2: Rip Tie Wrapped Braid
This one’s another easy and cute volleyball hairstyle that works especially well for beach volleyball.
How to do it:
-
Make a simple three-strand braid.
-
Attach the Rip Tie’s large loop at the base of the braid.
-
Wrap the Rip Tie down the braid and secure it at the end.
The Rip Tie keeps the braid tight and prevents hair from sticking to sweaty shoulders or collecting sand — because let’s face it, no one wants sand and hair stuck to their back mid-serve!
Volleyball Hairstyle Option 3: Double French Braids
This is the most complicated hairstyle of the bunch, but it is cute. Here's an easy instructoinal video for French braid pigtails

Volleyball Hairstyle Option 4: Classic Ponytail with Ribbon
When you want something quick that shows off team pride, this one’s a winner.
Pull the hair into a high ponytail then tie a ribbon around the base for a polished, spirited look.

We get our ribbons from The Hairbow Center ,. Our current school color is purple and gold, so we like this ribbon.
Volleyball Hairstyle Option 5:
Classic Ponytail with Snap Clips
Before discovering Rip Ties, this was our go-to volleyball hairstyle. We love the Teleties Snap Clips to keep the flyaway our of her face- but we do wish they came in purple .
It’s still cute and easy , but once we started using Rip Ties, we noticed the difference. Regular ponytails tend to stick to the back of her neck and loosen up during play, while Rip Ties stay smooth and comfortable the entire match.
